What happened
During a local training mission operating out of Manila-Intl Airport, an aircraft experienced a loss of control during a critical phase of flight. The flight was being conducted with a total of five people on board, consisting of three crew members and two passengers. While the flight crew was attempting to execute a go-around maneuver while managing an engine failure, the airplane entered a stall.
Following the stall, the aircraft descended into a residential area near the airport, striking several houses. The impact resulted in five fatalities, including both pilots and three individuals on the ground. Additionally, three people sustained serious injuries during the event. The aircraft was completely destroyed upon impact.
Findings
Investigations into the accident identified that the crew's assessment of the aircraft's capabilities was inaccurate. Specifically, the crew exhibited overconfidence and miscalculated the performance limits of the plane during the engine-out procedure. The primary factor leading to the crash was that the aircraft speed was insufficient to maintain flight during the maneuver, which directly triggered the stall.
