A four-engine aircraft experienced a heavy landing and subsequent runway excursion at Semarang-Ahmad Yani Airport, resulting in significant airframe damage but no injuries.

What happened

During an arrival at Semarang-Ahmad Yani Airport, a four-engine airplane experienced a high-impact touchdown on the runway. The force of the hard landing caused the immediate failure of the nose gear and the right main landing gear, which were both torn from the airframe. Following this structural failure, the aircraft lost directional control and veered toward the right side of the runway.

The aircraft eventually came to a stop after exiting the paved surface. Despite the severity of the impact and the subsequent excursion, all 44 occupants on board managed to evacuate the plane without sustaining any injuries. The incident resulted in the aircraft being declared a total loss due to damage sustained during the landing and excursion.

Findings

The specific reasons for the heavy landing remain undetermined at this time.

Probable cause

The cause of the hard landing and subsequent gear failure is currently unknown.
