What happened
During the landing phase of the flight, the aircraft performed an approach with an incorrect configuration. This resulted in the plane striking the ground 985 metres beyond the threshold of runway 13 with significant force. The impact caused the nose landing gear to fail immediately upon touchdown.
Following the collapse of the gear, the aircraft slid along the surface for a distance of several metres before the movement ceased. Despite the severity of the impact and the subsequent damage to the airframe, all 51 occupants were able to exit the plane without injury. The aircraft was subsequently declared a total loss due to the extent of the structural damage.
Findings
Investigations into the incident revealed that the primary factor in the accident was an improper approach profile. Specifically, the flight was conducted at an excessive airspeed accompanied by a high descent rate of 720 feet per minute.
