What happened
During an approach to Kaimana Airport, a twin engine aircraft impacted the side of Mt Kumawa. The mountain, which reaches an elevation of 2,800 metres, is situated a short distance from the airport. Following the impact, the wreckage remained undiscovered for five days.
There were 10 fatalities recorded in the accident, as all individuals on board perished during the crash. The incident occurred while the aircraft was in the descent phase of its flight.
