What happened
On 10 March 2008, flight DHI292, a Boeing 737-400 operated by Adam SkyConnection Airlines, was performing a scheduled passenger service from Jakarta's Soekarno – Hatta Airport to Hang Nadim Airport in Batam. The flight was carrying 177 individuals, including 171 passengers and 6 crew members.
During the approach to runway 04, the flight crew received reports of heavy rain and wind conditions. Although the runway was visible before reaching the decision altitude, the pilot in command chose to execute a go-around due to safety concerns. Following instructions from the tower, the crew climbed and re-established on the localizer. Upon a second approach, the crew reported seeing the runway, and landing clearance was granted.
As the aircraft touched down, the crew noted a light contact with the main wheels. During the subsequent landing roll, once the ground speed had dropped below 30 knots, the aircraft began to yaw toward the right. Despite the crew applying full left rudder in an attempt to maintain the centerline, the aircraft veered off the runway. The Boeing 737-400, registered PK-KKT, eventually came to a stop on the runway shoulder, approximately 40 meters from the right edge of the runway.
There were no injuries reported among the passengers or crew. However, the aircraft sustained heavy damage, including the collapse of the right main landing gear, damage to the right wing and flaps, and the displacement of the right engine.
Findings
- The aircraft experienced a significant rightward yaw during the landing roll at low speeds.
- The right main landing gear assembly detached and collapsed backward during the excursion.
