What happened
During a local training mission, an aircraft departed from São Paulo-Congonhas Airport. The flight was being conducted with a crew consisting of two instructors and two pilots under supervision. At the time of the incident, meteorological conditions were poor, characterized by rain, a low cloud ceiling of approximately 300 meters, and horizontal visibility limited to 3 kilometers.
Upon landing on the wet surface of runway 17R, the aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently within the available runway length. The momentum of the aircraft caused it to overshoot the end of the pavement, where it proceeded down an embankment before coming to a final stop. Although the aircraft was destroyed during the excursion, all four occupants managed to exit the wreckage without sustaining any injuries.
Findings
- The presence of rain and a wet runway surface contributed to the loss of braking effectiveness.
- Reduced visibility and low ceilings were present during the approach and landing phase.
