What happened
Upon landing at Porgera Airfield, the aircraft encountered issues maintaining deceleration within the available runway length. Following the initial touchdown, the plane was unable to come to a complete stop before reaching the end of the paved surface. The vessel subsequently overran the runway and struck an embankment located at the edge of the airfield.
While the impact with the embankment caused the aircraft to be damaged beyond repair, there were no casualties reported among those on board during the incident.
Findings
- The primary factor in the excursion was the inability to stop within the remaining runway distance after landing.
