What happened
A supply mission departing from Jorhat toward Taksing, Arunachal Pradesh, ended in a fatal accident when the aircraft entered an incorrect valley due to a navigational mistake. While attempting to maneuver out of the narrow valley, the pilot executed a turn that led to an aerodynamic stall. The impact occurred within rugged, mountainous terrain, resulting in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were nine fatalities among the occupants of the flight.
Findings
Investigations into the accident identified several contributing elements related to the crew's lack of familiarity with the specific flight path. Because this was the pilot's initial mission to this particular dropping zone, they lacked necessary local terrain knowledge. The sequence of events was driven by a navigational error that placed the aircraft in a restricted area, followed by an unsuccessful attempt to turn around which caused the plane to stall.
