Accident Overview
A cargo aircraft operating a supply mission from Jorhat to Taksing, Arunachal Pradesh, crashed in mountainous terrain, resulting in the destruction of the aircraft and the deaths of all nine occupants.
Sequence of Events
The crew departed Jorhat for a supply drop at Taksing. During the flight, a navigation error caused the aircraft to enter a narrow valley. The captain, who was not familiar with the region, attempted to turn the aircraft to leave the area. As the turn was executed in a restricted space, the airplane stalled and subsequently crashed into the mountainous terrain. The aircraft was destroyed in the impact, and all nine people on board were killed.
Probable Cause
The official investigation attributed the accident to an error of navigation, which caused the pilot to enter a wrong valley. During an attempt to turn back in a restricted area, the aircraft stalled and crashed. The fact that this was the pilot's first flight to this dropping zone, and he was not familiar with the terrain, contributed to the accident.
