What happened
During a nighttime approach to runway 03 at Ankara-Esenboğa Airport, the crew was instructed to descend from 9,000 feet to 8,000 feet. While operating in conditions of low visibility, the aircraft impacted a mountain covered in snow. The collision occurred approximately 12 km from the runway threshold.
The impact resulted in the total destruction of the plane and the deaths of all three crew members involved in the flight.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the primary reason for the crash was that the aircraft descended below the required altitude limits. This deviation from established altitude constraints occurred because the crew failed to adhere to the prescribed instrument flight rules during the approach.
