Aircraft overrun during landing

No fatalities • Sokoto, Nigeria • Landing (descent or approach)

An aircraft failed to stop on the runway after touchdown, resulting in an excursion and significant damage to the airframe.

What happened

Following the completion of the landing phase, the aircraft was unable to decelerate sufficiently before reaching the end of the available runway surface. Due to the insufficient remaining distance, the plane exited the paved area and continued traveling for several dozen meters before finally coming to a complete stop.

Although the incident resulted in the aircraft being damaged beyond repair, there were no injuries reported among those on board. All 23 occupants successfully evacuated the wreckage without sustaining any harm.

Findings

  • The primary factor in the excursion was the inability to stop within the runway limits during the landing roll.

Probable cause

The aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently to remain on the runway during the landing roll.
