What happened
A scheduled passenger service departing from Bandung-Husein Sastranegara Airport for Jakarta experienced a critical mechanical issue shortly after departure. The aircraft, carrying 45 passengers and 5 crew members, suffered a loss of power in its left engine. Upon notifying Air Traffic Control of the situation, the flight crew decided to divert the flight to Bandung-Sulaiman AFB for an emergency landing.
During the final approach toward runway 13, the aircraft was unable to sustain the necessary altitude. The plane subsequently collided with several rooftops before crashing. The accident resulted in 28 fatalities, which included all five members of the crew. Of the total occupants on board, 20 individuals were successfully rescued from the wreckage.
Findings
The investigation into the crash centered on the mechanical failure experienced during the initial climb. It was determined that the primary factor in the accident was the failure of the left engine.
