What happened
On April 24, 2024, at 17:55 UTC, an Embraer 190, registration LV-CET, operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas, was conducting a scheduled commercial flight (AR1455) from Catamarca to Buenos Aires. While the aircraft was positioned vertically over the MUPER waypoint, it was executing an ILS approach for runway 13 at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery. The flight crew was descending to 3,000 feet as authorized by the Aeroparque Tower.
During this descent, the aircraft's Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) issued a Resolution Advisory (RA), specifically commanding a climb. In response to the alert, the crew performed a climb maneuver, reaching an altitude of approximately 3,300 feet. Following the resolution of the conflict, the crew resumed the standard approach procedure and landed the aircraft safely without further incident.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the sequence of events leading to the TCAS RA during the approach phase. The inquiry established that the aircraft was following the authorized descent profile for the ILS Z RWY 13 approach when the automated collision avoidance system intervened. There were no injuries and no damage to the aircraft reported following the maneuver.
