Incident
While overflying the Yucatán Province during a flight from Monterrey to Cancún, the pilot of a single-engine aircraft informed air traffic control that the aircraft was low on fuel. The pilot requested and received permission to divert to Chichén Itzá Airport for an emergency landing.
As the aircraft approached the airfield during nighttime conditions, it descended into trees and crashed several kilometers from the airport. The impact destroyed the airplane, and there was no post-crash fire.
