What happened
On the morning of July 26, 2015, a privately owned Piper PA-64-350P, bearing registration JA4060, was involved in a fatal accident in Chōfu City. The aircraft had just departed from Runway 17 at Chōfu Airport when it struck a private residence located in Fujimi Town.
The impact caused the aircraft to be destroyed and ignited a fire. The blaze spread to the house hit by the plane and caused damage to nearby residential structures. The incident resulted in two fatalities and several injuries among those on the aircraft and on the ground. Specifically, the pilot and one passenger perished in the crash, while three other passengers sustained serious injuries. On the ground, one resident lost their life, and two others suffered minor injuries during the event.
Findings
An investigation into the event noted that the aircraft crashed into the building immediately following takeoff.
