What happened
During an arrival from Pereira, a twin-engine aircraft was instructed to land on Runway 13L at Bogotá-El Dorado Airport. The landing sequence was characterized by the aircraft bouncing against the runway surface on three separate occasions before a firm touchdown was achieved.
Immediately following the contact with the runway, the aircraft became unstable and lost directional control. The plane subsequently veered off the paved surface and entered a grassy area adjacent to the runway. During the excursion, the nose landing gear was lost.
Despite the impact and the structural damage to the airframe, all 11 occupants were able to evacuate the aircraft without injury. The aircraft was subsequently declared a total loss due to the extent of the damage.
Findings
- The aircraft experienced multiple bounces prior to a stable touchdown.
- Loss of directional control following the landing caused the excursion off the runway.
