What happened
During the descent toward Mosul, the flight crew identified mechanical difficulties involving the aircraft's fuel supply mechanism. In response to these technical complications, an emergency was declared by the crew.
During the approach phase, the pilots failed to execute the necessary approach checklist correctly. This error led to a failure to deploy the landing gear prior to touchdown. Consequently, the aircraft struck the runway on its belly and slid for several dozen meters before coming to a complete stop.
Despite the impact, all 33 occupants were successfully evacuated from the plane without injury. However, the incident resulted in the aircraft being declared a total loss due to extensive structural damage.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the primary sequence of events was driven by improper management of the fuel system and the subsequent failure to extend the undercarriage during the landing process.
