Incident
While descending to Mosul, the crew experienced technical problems with the fuel supply system. They declared an emergency as the situation developed. In the resulting confusion, the pilots did not follow the approach checklist and consequently failed to lower the undercarriage.
Sequence of Events
The aircraft made contact with the runway on its belly, sliding for a dozen meters before coming to rest. The landing gear remained retracted throughout the landing.
Evacuation and Damage
All 33 occupants on board evacuated safely without reported injuries. The aircraft, however, sustained significant damage during the belly landing and was assessed as damaged beyond repair.
Probable Cause
The official investigation identified the probable cause as: improper operation of the fuel system followed by failure to extend the undercarriage.
