What happened
During the final approach phase toward Ankara-Esenboğa Airport, the flight crew operated under challenging weather conditions. While descending, the aircraft's altitude became insufficient for a safe approach. During this maneuver, the four-engine airplane collided with a concrete pole.
Following the collision, the aircraft entered a stall and descended into a field covered in snow. The force of the impact caused the plane to lose its undercarriage and resulted in the fuselage breaking into two separate sections. The wreckage came to a stop several hundred meters before reaching the runway. Despite the destruction of the aircraft, all 26 occupants were successfully evacuated from the wreckage without any reported fatalities or injuries.
Findings
Investigation into the incident indicates that the crew failed to maintain the necessary altitude during the approach. The primary contributing factor was the failure to recognize a low-altitude condition while navigating marginal weather conditions.
