KLM and KLM Cityhopper are testing various measures for more efficient flight operations as part of the "Aviation Challenge". KLM conducted a demonstration flight from Amsterdam to Delhi on 28 September 2026. KLM Cityhopper will follow on 30 September with an Embraer E195-E2 to Dublin.

On the Dublin flight, the TaxiBot will be used, among other things, to tow the aircraft from the gate toward the runway without running main engines. KLM Cityhopper is also testing the OptiDescent system with Sita for more efficient descents, as well as new solutions for waste separation on board.

KLM itself plans to provide more information about sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in October. The results of the test flights will subsequently be shared with other participating airlines.
