Qantas manages 737 wind-down as pilots transition to Airbus jets
Qantas is retiring its Boeing 737 fleet while retraining pilots for Airbus aircraft, a transition it says will leave it with a temporary surplus of 737 crew. The airline is spending AUD 12.8 billion on the fleet overhaul.

Qantas is spending AUD 12.8 billion to overhaul its fleet, replacing its Boeing 737s with Airbus aircraft, the airline said.
The Australian carrier expects a temporary surplus of mainline 737 captains and first officers during the changeover, even as the group's total aircraft count grows. The 737 fleet's flying hours will shrink faster than line pilots can finish conversion training for the replacement Airbus airframes.
Qantas says it aims to manage the transition without grounding pilots.
