Vueling to end Cardiff routes to Malaga and Alicante
Vueling will suspend flights connecting Cardiff to Malaga and Alicante this October, ending a network it has operated since 2012.
Vueling, the Spanish low-cost carrier owned by International Airlines Group, will halt flights between Cardiff and two Spanish destinations later this year.
The Cardiff-Malaga service ends on October 22. The Cardiff-Alicante route follows two days later, on October 24.
Vueling said the decision reflects a routine review of its network aimed at matching capacity to demand and connectivity needs. The airline did not rule out a return to Cardiff, saying it would consider future opportunities as they arise.
Cardiff Airport said it was disappointed by the move. It noted, though, that other carriers, including Ryanair and TUI, would continue flying between Cardiff and Alicante, keeping that route open despite Vueling's exit.
Vueling has served Cardiff since 2012. Its withdrawal marks the end of the airline's presence at the Welsh airport, at least for now. IAG, Vueling's parent group, also owns British Airways, Aer Lingus and Iberia.
No other Cardiff routes were mentioned as being affected by the change.
