Incident Overview
USAir Flight 10, while descending out of flight level 270 for landing, encountered light to moderate turbulence. Prior to the encounter, the captain advised all passengers and cabin crew to remain seated and to engage their seatbelts. The cabin attendants made a similar announcement.
Passenger Incident
An elderly female passenger with a disability stated she needed to use the restroom before landing, as her walking device was being shipped and she would not be able to use the facilities at the airport. The cabin attendants attempted to dissuade her but she insisted. Two attendants helped her to her feet and were in the process of assisting her down the aisle when all three were thrown to the floor by the inflight turbulence. The passenger sustained two broken bones and other injuries.
Aftermath
The flight was given special handling and landed without further incident.
