Incident Description
During a powerback procedure, the pilot was instructed by the signal man to turn the tail to the right (as viewed by the signal man). However, as the powerback commenced, the tail was turned to the left (from the signal man's perspective). The signal man corrected this turn, but the aircraft subsequently followed a much larger arc and approached the aircraft parking area at the opposite concourse. The signal man urgently signaled for the pilot to come forward, but the aircraft rolled back an additional 40 to 50 feet, striking a parked cargo loader.
Witness Accounts
Witnesses stated that the aircraft was being powerbacked at a speed significantly greater than normal.
