Incident Notification
The United Kingdom Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has notified the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of an incident involving a Boeing 777-236 airplane. The incident occurred on July 23, 2017. Under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13, the NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist the government of the United Kingdom in the investigation.
Investigation Framework
As the State of Manufacturer and Design of the airplane, the NTSB will participate in the investigation led by the UK AAIB. All investigative information will be released by the UK AAIB in accordance with international protocols. The specific circumstances of the incident have not been detailed in the notification.
International Cooperation
The appointment of an Accredited Representative is standard practice for incidents involving aircraft designed or manufactured in the United States. This cooperation ensures that the investigating authority benefits from technical expertise provided by the manufacturer's state. The NTSB's role is limited to assisting the UK AAIB, which retains full authority over the investigation and the release of findings.
