What happened
During a nighttime cargo operation from Montevideo to Buenos Aires, the flight crew experienced mechanical difficulties involving the engines while cruising over the Río de la Plata. In response to these engine problems, the crew elected to divert the flight to La Plata Airport in the Buenos Aires Province.
While performing the approach to the airfield, the aircraft struck trees and crashed onto a small road situated approximately 5 km northeast of the threshold of runway 20. The impact was followed by a significant post-crash fire that resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. Despite the severity of the accident, both pilots managed to exit the wreckage and sustained no injuries.
