What happened
During a night arrival at Semarang-Ahmad Yani Airport, an aircraft encountered severe weather characterized by intense rainfall and high wind speeds. As the flight attempted to land on a wet runway, the aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently, touching down too far along the landing strip. Due to the lack of remaining runway length, the aircraft overran the pavement and exited the airfield, eventually coming to a stop in a nearby ravine. The impact caused the airframe to break into three distinct sections.
All 85 occupants on board were successfully evacuated from the wreckage. While there were no fatalities, the accident resulted in three injuries among the passengers.
Findings
Investigations into the incident identified that the combination of heavy precipitation and strong winds contributed to the loss of control during the landing roll. The primary factor in the overrun was the inability to stop the aircraft on the slick surface after a long touchdown point.
