What happened
While performing the takeoff roll at Kendari-Wolter Monginsidi Airport, the crew of the aircraft reached the rotation speed (Vr) when a warning light indicating a cargo door issue appeared on the cockpit instrument panel. In response to this alert, the captain executed an aborted takeoff and applied emergency braking.
Despite these efforts, the aircraft could not stop before the end of the runway. The plane overran the paved surface, resulting in the loss of its undercarriage. The aircraft eventually came to a halt approximately 200 metres beyond the runway threshold. While the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss, all 64 occupants managed to evacuate the vessel without any reported injuries.
Findings
- The primary factor leading to the excursion was the activation of the cargo door warning light during the takeoff roll, which necessitated an immediate emergency stop.
