What happened
On October 5, 2023, at approximately 08:40 UTC, a Boeing 737-8U3, registration LV-KHO, was performing a scheduled commercial flight from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (SABE) to San Carlos de Bariloche. During the takeoff phase of the operation, the aircraft experienced an engine failure.
Following the malfunction, the flight crew elected to continue the climb while declaring an emergency. As a precautionary measure, the decision was made to divert the aircraft to Aeropuerto Internacional Ministro Pistarini (SAEZ) in Ezeiza. The crew executed all necessary emergency procedures, and the aircraft landed safely at the diversion airport. There were no injuries reported among the six passengers or the crew, and the aircraft sustained no significant damage.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the mechanical failure that occurred during the critical takeoff phase. Authorities examined the sequence of events from the moment the engine malfunctioned to the successful emergency landing at Ezeiza. The review confirmed that the crew followed established emergency protocols, which allowed for a controlled diversion and a safe touchdown without further incident.
