Incident Overview
On December 19, 2021, at 15:51 UTC, a Boeing 737-800, registration LV-FUA, operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas S.A., was involved in a fire incident at Aeropuerto Internacional Ministro Pistarini in Ezeiza, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. The aircraft was performing commercial flight AR1666 from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery to Aeropuerto Esquel.
Sequence of Events
During the initial climb phase of the flight, a fire and smoke event began in a 2000 milliampere-hour power bank belonging to a passenger. The power bank was located in an overhead bin in the passenger cabin. The crew extinguished the fire immediately.
Response and Outcome
No damage to the aircraft and no injuries to passengers or crew were reported. The national aviation safety authority, JST, closed the investigation, stating that the occurrence did not represent any impact on operational safety.
