What happened
On January 17, 2024, at approximately 23:03 UTC, an Aerolíranes Argentinas flight, operating as AR1464, was performing an initial climb phase en route from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (SABE) toward Salta (SASA). Following the BIVAM 3B departure route, the crew was cleared to fly directly to the BIVAM waypoint and climb to FL100. While the aircraft, an Embraer E-190 registered as LV-CIF, was climbing through approximately FL093, the Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) activated in Resolution Advisory (RA) mode. This alert was triggered by the convergence of the aircraft with another aircraft, an Airbus A330-203 registered as LV-GKP, which was operating flight AR1325 on an international route from Punta Cana to Buenos Aires (SAEZ).
The investigation
The investigation focused on the interaction between the two aircraft operated by the same carrier. The JST examined the flight paths and the operational parameters of both the Embraer E-190 and the Airbus A330-203 during the period of convergence. The analysis centered on the flight profiles of both aircraft as they occupied the same airspace between FL090 and FL100 in the province of Buenos Aires. No injuries or aircraft damage were reported following the encounter.
