What happened
On March 30, 2023, at 11:30 UTC, a Boeing 737-8Q8, registered as LV-KAH, was performing a scheduled commercial flight from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (SABE) to Posadas General José de San Martín Airport (SARP). While the aircraft was in the approach phase of its flight, the crew experienced a malfunction involving the airspeed indicator. Due to this technical issue, the pilot decided to declare an emergency.
Following the declaration, the crew coordinated the emergency arrival plan with the airport authorities. The aircraft subsequently completed its landing at Posadas Airport without further incident. There were no injuries reported among the 5 crew members or the 187 passengers on board, and the aircraft sustained no damage.
The investigation
The JST investigation focused on the technical failure of the flight instruments during the approach to SARP. The inquiry examined the sequence of events leading from the initial detection of the airspeed indicator malfunction to the successful emergency landing. The investigation confirmed that the aircraft was operating under Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) at the time of the event.
