Incident Details
On 24 May 2023, at 11:00 UTC, a Boeing 737-800, registration LV-GGK, operating a scheduled commercial flight, encountered hail while in the cruise phase. The hail impacted the aircraft's radome, causing light damage. The flight crew did not declare an emergency, and the aircraft continued to its intended destination, where it landed without further incident. The incident occurred near the Aeropuerto Internacional Gobernador Horacio Guzmán in Jujuy province, at coordinates 24°23′34″S 65°01′52″W.
Aircraft and Operator
The aircraft was a Boeing 737-8SH, model 737-800, serial number 41339, owned and operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas. The flight had departed from Aeroparque Internacional Jorge (Buenos Aires) and was destined for Aeropuerto Internacional Ministro (also in Buenos Aires), with a total flight duration of approximately 2 hours. On board were 6 crew members and an unspecified number of passengers; no injuries were reported among either group. The aircraft sustained light damage, limited to the radome.
Investigation
The Dirección Nacional de Investigación de Sucesos Aeronáuticos (DNISAE) conducted a documentary investigation in accordance with the Manual de Procedimientos de Investigación de Accidentes e Incidentes de Aviación Civil (MAPRIAAC), fifth edition, Chapter 2. The investigation concluded that the findings did not present significant elements that could contribute to the improvement of operational safety. Consequently, the case was filed without further action. No probable cause was determined.
