What happened
On May 24, 2023, at approximately 11:00 UTC, a Boeing 737-800, registration LV-GGK, was operating a scheduled commercial flight from Aeroparque Internacional Jorge Newbery to Aeropuerto Internacional Ministro Ministro Bertino Capitán Alemann (Gobernador Horacio Guzmán) in Jujuy. While the aircraft was in the cruise phase of its flight, it encountered hail impacts against the radome.
Despite the impact, the flight crew did not declare an emergency. The aircraft continued its flight path and landed safely at its destination. The incident resulted in no injuries to the six passengers or the crew on board, and the damage to the aircraft was classified as minor.
The investigation
The Dirección Nacional de Investigación de Sucesos Aeronáuticos (DNISAE) conducted a documentary investigation into the event. The inquiry focused on the circumstances surrounding the encounter with the weather phenomenon and the subsequent impact on the aircraft structure. Following the review of the available information and the findings of the investigator, the authorities determined that the investigation did not reveal significant elements that would necessitate further action to improve national operational safety.
