What happened
On May 24, 2023, at approximately 09:30 UTC, a scheduled commercial flight, operating as flight 1470, was impacted by a lightning strike. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700 with registration LV-CAD, was in the cruise phase of its journey from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires to Gobernador Horacio Guzmán International Airport in Jujuy when the event occurred.
Following the strike, the flight crew did not declare an emergency. The aircraft continued its flight path and landed safely at its intended destination in Jujuy. There were no fatalities and no injuries reported among the five passengers on board.
The investigation
The Argentine National Directorate for the Investigation of Aeronautical Occurrences (DNISAE) conducted an intervention regarding the event. The investigation focused on the nature of the strike and the subsequent condition of the aircraft. Upon review, the authorities determined that the event's characteristics did not necessitate a full-scale accident investigation. The investigation confirmed that the aircraft sustained no damage as a result of the strike.
