What happened
On February 21, 2024, at 23:43 UTC, a Boeing 737-8AS, registered as LV-HKS, was performing a scheduled commercial flight from Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza) to Mayor D. Carlos Eduardo Krause Airport (Iguazú). Shortly after departing from Ezeiza, while the aircraft was in its initial climb phase, the crew encountered a failure involving the aircraft's onboard systems. The flight was positioned over the Gregorio de Laferrere district in the southwest area of the Buenos Aires metropolitan region when the malfunction occurred.
Following the detection of the system failure, the flight crew initiated a return to the departure airport. The aircraft successfully completed the return procedure and landed at Ezeiza without further complications. There were no injuries reported among the 183 passengers or the 6 crew members on board, and the aircraft sustained no damage during the event.
The investigation
The preliminary investigation by the JST focused on the sequence of events during the initial ascent and the nature of the onboard system malfunction. Investigators examined the operational phase of flight FO5106 to determine the exact timing and impact of the failure. The investigation confirmed that the aircraft returned to its point of origin and landed safely, with no structural damage or injuries recorded.
