What happened
On September 13, 2022, at 15:40 UTC, a Boeing 737-800, registration LV-GGK, was performing a scheduled commercial flight from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery to Ushuaia International Airport. During the approach phase of the flight, the flight crew identified a malfunction involving the aircraft's flaps. Following the detection of this technical issue, emergency prevention services were alerted to the situation as a precaution.
Despite the mechanical irregularity, the aircraft successfully completed the landing at Ushuaia International Airport without further incident. There were no injuries reported among the six passengers or the crew on board, and the aircraft sustained no damage during the landing.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the technical failure of the flap system during the approach to Tierra del Fuego. The JST examined the sequence of events leading from the notification of the flap issue to the safe touchdown. The investigation confirmed that the aircraft was operating under Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) and that all emergency protocols were appropriately activated once the crew identified the discrepancy.
