On May 3, 2016, a Robinson R44, registration RA-2118G, departed from the settlement of Khalaktyrka for a planned flight route including Mokhovaya, the bend of the Paratunka River, and Karyshina. The pilot-in-command took off at 01:00 with two passengers on board. Before departure, the pilot performed an external inspection and refueled the aircraft with Avgas 100LL. The takeoff weight was recorded at 1003 kg, which was within the maximum allowable limit of 1089 kg.
During the flight, the pilot reported landing at the Karyshina tourist base to air traffic control at 01:29. However, eyewitness accounts later indicated that the helicopter passed the intended base and headed toward the Mutnovsky Pass. The aircraft was noted by a witness for its distinctive pink color.
The accident resulted in three fatalities. The investigation focused on the mechanical state of the engine and the maintenance history of the aircraft.
