What happened
A private flight departed from Monterrey-Del Norte Airport at 08:27 local time, bound for Acapulco. The aircraft, a single-engine plane, was operated with one pilot and six passengers on board. Approximately three and a half hours after takeoff, while maintaining cruising altitude, the pilot notified air traffic control of an emergency situation. In response, the flight was authorized to divert to Toluca Airport.
During the final approach phase at the diversion airport, the aircraft experienced a total engine failure. This loss of power led to an aerodynamic stall. The aircraft subsequently struck a fence before impacting the ground at a deconstruction site, located roughly 1,600 meters before the threshold of runway 15. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft.
Findings
Of the seven people on board, two passengers sustained serious injuries, while the remaining five occupants suffered minor injuries. The casualty count eventually rose to three fatalities, as two survivors succumbed to their injuries in the days following the accident. Investigations by authorities noted that one of the deceased passengers was positioned on the floor of the cabin and was not secured by a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
