What happened
During a scheduled flight departing from Chongqing-Jiangbei Airport for Nyingchi, Tibet, an aircraft carrying 113 passengers and nine crew members experienced a critical incident during the takeoff roll on runway 03. As the plane reached a speed of 145 knots, which was slightly below the V1 decision speed, the captain responded to an unforeseen situation by electing to abort the takeoff.
As the pilot attempted an emergency braking maneuver, the aircraft began to drift toward the left side of the runway. The plane subsequently exited the paved surface and traveled through a grassy area. During this excursion, the aircraft struck a parallel concrete taxiway, an impact that resulted in the separation of the nose landing gear. The momentum of the vehicle carried it an additional 120 meters until it struck a drainage ditch. This secondary impact caused the destruction of both main landing gears and both engines. Following the collision, the aircraft came to a halt and caught fire. While the majority of the 122 people on board evacuated without harm, 36 injuries were reported during the event. The aircraft was a total loss.
Findings
- The pilot initiated an aborted takeoff procedure just below V1 speed.
- The aircraft deviated from the runway centerline during the emergency braking phase.
