What happened
During a scheduled training maneuver involving two Sudanese Air Force Antonov AN-32 and Antonov AN-26 aircraft, a collision occurred on the runway. The incident began when the first aircraft successfully touched down on runway 18 and the crew initiated standard braking protocols. Shortly after this landing, a second aircraft, also an Antonov AN-32, arrived on the same runway.
As the first aircraft was decelerating, it was struck from the rear by the following aircraft. The impact caused both planes to lose control of their flight paths. Both aircraft eventually drifted off the runway and came to a halt at the edge of the paved surface.
Findings
Preliminary observations indicate that the second aircraft landed in close proximity to the first. The trailing aircraft was unable to complete its stopping sequence in time to avoid the lead plane. While both aircraft sustained enough damage to be considered destroyed, there were no casualties reported among the crews involved in the collision.
