What happened
During a repositioning flight traveling from a lake situated approximately 60 km south of Loukhi toward Loukhi, the aircraft entered a steep descent over Lake Keret, located roughly 30 km south of Loukhi. During this maneuver, the second pilot attempted to intervene and stabilize the flight, but the aircraft struck the surface of the lake. The impact caused the plane to nose over and submerge to a depth of approximately 4 meters.
In the aftermath of the crash, the crew of a nearby boat managed to rescue the co-pilot. However, the captain did not survive the accident and succumbed to drowning.
Findings
Post-accident medical examinations of the captain's body identified a blood alcohol concentration of 1.04 ‰. The investigation concluded that the primary factor in the crash was hazardous maneuvers performed by the intoxicated pilot during the descent.
