What happened
Shortly after departing from Pedro Afonso, the flight crew identified mechanical issues that necessitated an immediate return to the airfield. During the subsequent landing attempt, the aircraft type approached the runway at an excessive velocity. This high speed caused the plane to touch down significantly past the intended point, roughly 300 meters before the runway's conclusion.
Due to the insufficient remaining runway length, the pilot was unable to decelerate the vehicle sufficiently. The aircraft subsequently exited the paved surface, traversed a nearby street, and collided with a residential structure. The impact resulted in three fatalities, including the copilot and two children who were inside the home. Additionally, one woman residing in the house lost her life.
Findings
- The crew encountered technical difficulties shortly after takeoff.
- The landing was executed at an excessive approach speed.
- The aircraft's touchdown point was too far down the runway to allow for a safe stop.
- The impact with the building resulted in three deaths and one injury among those on the ground.
- Aside from the copilot, the remaining 13 occupants of the aircraft escaped without injury. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
