What happened
During the final approach to Goiânia-Santa Genoveva Airport, the flight crew encountered challenging weather conditions characterized by rain and reduced visibility. As the aircraft approached the runway, it touched down approximately 500 meters beyond the threshold. Due to a misalignment with the runway centerline, the right main landing gear made contact with the left side of the pavement.
In an effort to correct the aircraft's position and return to the center of the runway, the crew attempted to steer the plane. During this maneuver, the right main gear suffered a structural collapse. This failure caused the aircraft to lose control, leading to the separation of the right engine and the subsequent loss of the nose gear. The aircraft eventually came to a stop on the runway surface. There were no fatalities among the 67 occupants, all of whom evacuated the aircraft safely.
Findings
- The landing was performed under poor visibility conditions caused by rainfall.
- The aircraft was misaligned with the runway centerline at the time of touchdown, which placed the right main gear on the left side of the runway.
