What happened
A twin-engine aircraft was traveling from Abuja to Obudu with a total of 18 people on board, consisting of 15 passengers and three crew members. During the flight, the pilots began their descent while operating in adverse weather conditions. The aircraft subsequently struck hilly terrain in the vicinity of Vande Ikya, located approximately 29 km northwest of the destination. The impact resulted in 13 fatalities and left 5 survivors with injuries. Among the deceased were several high-ranking officers who were en route to conduct an inspection of military equipment.
Findings
Investigation into the circumstances of the crash indicates that the aircraft was operating in an area characterized by poor visibility caused by a low cloud ceiling. The descent into the hilly landscape occurred while the crew was navigating these difficult meteorological conditions.
