What happened
During the landing phase of flight at Rio de Janeiro-Galeão, the aircraft's nose landing gear failed. The collapse occurred as the plane was touching down on the runway, causing the forward section of the aircraft to make contact with the ground. Following the structural failure, the aircraft came to a complete stop on the airfield.
There were no injuries reported among the occupants following the incident. However, the impact and subsequent movement caused extensive damage to the airframe, and the aircraft was subsequently declared a total loss as it was damaged beyond repair.
Findings
Investigations into the incident concluded that the primary factor in the accident was the mechanical failure of the nose gear during the landing sequence.
