Incident Overview
While en route from Damascus to Ankara, the crew reported cabin pressurization problems to air traffic control and received clearance to divert to Adana-Şakirpaşa Airport for an emergency landing.
Sequence of Events
During the initial approach, the pilot encountered poor visibility due to snowfall and, unable to locate the runway, initiated a go-around. On the second landing attempt, the crew failed to recognize that the aircraft's altitude was too low, and the airplane struck the ground. Upon impact, the aircraft lost its undercarriage and slid for approximately a dozen yards before coming to rest in flames about 2 kilometers short of runway 05 threshold.
Casualties
Four crew members were injured, and one pilot was killed.
