Incident Overview
While descending to Tehran-Mehrabad Airport, the crew received information about adverse weather conditions at the destination, including snowfall, low visibility, and a 20-knot tailwind. In response, they decided to divert to Isfahan-Shahid Beheshti Airport.
Approach and Impact
On approach to Isfahan, the crew encountered limited visibility due to foggy conditions. The aircraft subsequently struck the ground approximately 8 kilometers short of runway 26. The impact caused the aircraft to lose its undercarriage, and it slid for nearly one kilometer before coming to rest in a desert area.
Occupant Status and Aircraft Damage
All 113 occupants aboard evacuated the aircraft without injury. However, the aircraft sustained damage beyond repair as a result of the accident.
Weather Conditions
Weather conditions at the time included fog, reduced visibility, and a tailwind component. The crew had been informed of the poor weather at Tehran prior to the diversion.
