What happened
On the date of the incident, an aircraft was performing its final approach to El Obeid Airport when it crashed. The accident resulted in five fatalities, with all crew members on board losing their lives.
Following the crash, conflicting reports emerged regarding the circumstances of the impact. The Sudanese Air Force reported that the crash was the result of a technical failure occurring during the flight. However, local rebel groups claimed responsibility for the destruction of the aircraft, alleging that it was struck by a mortar shell.
