What happened
On the final leg of a journey originating in Campo Grande, an Embraer (registration not provided) departed Londrina Airport at 18:33 local time, bound for São Paulo-Congonhas Airport. Approximately 50 minutes after takeoff, the flight crew identified mechanical issues that necessitated the shutdown of the left engine and the feathering of its propeller.
Due to the lack of lighting at Ourinhos Airport during nighttime operations, an emergency landing there was deemed unfeasible. Consequently, the pilot received clearance to return to Londrina Airport. During the final approach toward runway 12, the aircraft lost control and impacted the ground in flames, less than two kilometers from the airport perimeter.
The accident resulted in 20 fatalities and one serious injury. While one passenger survived the initial impact, they succumbed to their injuries several hours later, bringing the total death toll to 20.
