What happened
During the final approach to Passo Fundo Airport, an aircraft encountered challenging meteorological conditions characterized by reduced visibility. While maneuvering on final approach, the aircraft descended below the safe altitude and collided with trees in a forested region situated a short distance before the runway threshold.
The impact resulted in the deaths of both pilots and 13 passengers, totaling 15 fatalities. Additionally, three other occupants sustained injuries during the accident. The aircraft was completely destroyed upon impact with the terrain.
Findings
Official investigations concluded that the primary factor in the accident was an error of judgment by the pilot, who attempted to maintain visual flight operations despite the presence of unfavorable weather conditions during twilight hours.
