What happened
On December 1, 2022, at 19:55 UTC, an Airbus A320-214, registered as PR-MHU, was involved in a ground collision at Aeroparque Internacional Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires. The aircraft, operated by TAM Líneas Aéreas, was performing a regular commercial flight from São Paulo (SBGR) to Buenos Aires (SABE).
Upon arriving at its assigned parking position, the flight crew shut down the engines and engaged the parking brake. Shortly after this procedure, the captain noticed that the aircraft had begun to move unexpectedly. The pilot immediately applied the wheel brakes to stop the movement. During this uncontrolled displacement, the aircraft traveled approximately 12 meters from its intended parking spot, resulting in the left side of the aircraft striking a passenger boarding stair located within the designated area.
There were no injuries reported among the crew or the passengers on board, and the aircraft sustained minor damage.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) conducted a technical investigation into the incident. The inquiry focused on the sequence of events during the arrival and parking phase, specifically examining why the aircraft moved after the parking brake had been applied. Following the analysis of the circumstances and the resulting condition of the aircraft, the JST determined that the incident did not present significant lessons for the improvement of national operational safety. Consequently, the authorities decided to close the investigation and archive the proceedings.
