What happened
During a scheduled training session at Luxor Airport, the crew was performing a series of touch-and-go maneuvers. During one of these maneuvers, the pilot entered an incorrect approach configuration. This error resulted in the aircraft touching down approximately 700 meters beyond the runway threshold and positioned to the right of the centerline.
Upon making contact with the runway, the right main landing gear impacted runway lighting equipment. The momentum of the aircraft type could not be arrested within the remaining runway length, leading to a significant overrun. During the excursion, the plane struck a localizer antenna and breached a perimeter fence before eventually coming to a halt. A post-impact fire broke out, which completely destroyed the airframe. There were five fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft.
Findings
Investigations into the accident identified that the primary factor leading to the crash was the incorrect approach configuration maintained by the pilot during the landing phase.
